More babies

Okay, I'm sorry but I just have to write about my guinea fowl. Again. I know I know my life is excitement plus so leave now if you want, but you will miss out on cuteness overload.

We have had a very interesting week. Our guineas disappeared for two days and nights, which prompted me to drive around and visit our neighbours (some for the very first time) to advise about our lost guinea flock. I can't understand why they looked at me like I was an idiot. Don't they know what a bird is?

Anyway, the naughty girls and boys came back for a night, then disappeared again for three nights. Highly unusual behaviour even for them. As they are insane most of the time, but they do come home.

The Hubbster was driving through the long grass on Friday and guess what he found...guess, go on guess???

He found these:

18 brand new baby guineas that have hatched. The flock was staying there protecting them as they were obviously too little and too far away to walk back. It was such a shock and a beautiful surprise for us as nesting season is over so these babies are very unexpected.

After a couple of hours chasing these tiny babes through the long grass, we managed to catch them all and transport them back to their cage, along with the mother. 3 have died, which is not unusual, but the remainder are resting comfortably in the sun in their new digs, and generally misbehaving and falling over.

Meh stupid internet and chicken schnitzel

AH bliss for a minute. The Hubbster is at work. The kids are eating dinner while watching The Simpsons so I have a minute to post.

I am sorry I havent' visited your blogs but I have used all of our internet allowance so I am on dial up. Which is about as fun as sticking needles in your eyes. Or watching Speed Racer again, which I have done..and done..and done. I should be back to full speed on May 1. So your gorgeous pages refuse to load and it pisses me that I can't read and find out what you are up to.

It annoys me as we are out of town so are on satellite broadband internet. Which is particularly useless because it constantly drops in and out, and doesn't offer us a decent plan for the money. So we chose a plan with adequate fast hours...or so I thought. Each month I use it up...blogging. Or facebooking. Or googling Sam and Dean. And each month I promise myself that I will stay away from the computer....but of course here I am.

I was reading an article today about the tv series Masterchef, in which one contestant was praised for her unique "plating up" ability. I'm sorry- plating up ability?? Don't you just throw the fish fingers and mashed spuds onto the plates and call out "DINNERS READY"??

Oh you know I jest. I'm sure there are some people who have a gift to be able to do this and do it right. The way they wipe the sauce from the edge of the plate, or how they position the food so it looks delicious and inviting. Really, how hard could it be? It all goes down the same way doesn't it? I don't really think my kids care how their chicken schnitzel (or chicken mitchell as Miss T likes to call it) sits as long as it is tasty and filling and it's followed by a chocolate milo.

D

Dora on the dvd. Downpour of rain outside.

Darkened cool room.

My youngest, darling 5 year old daughter and I having some downtime alone.

I adore her. We don't have enough one on one time together. I need to deal with this.

We had a beautiful afternoon and evening.

She is divine.

Still some things to fix but all in all I'm okay

I finally made the change, with great help from you guys. Thank you for your comments and suggestions.

I am now officially known as Farmers Wifey, as opposed to Farmers Wife. I decided on this variation for several reasons, which include the following:-

- The Hubbster has called me Wifey for a long time, and Wifey was already in my blogspot title.

- farmerswifedotcom and farmerswifedotnet were already taken.

- one other variation was a dating site.

There are at least 3 other Farmers Wives (the bloody nerve!) already blogging.

I wanted to be different and stand out from these impostors (no offence, well maybe just a little).

So you can now call me Farmers Wifey and I will answer.

I am still sorting out my new header, yes yes I know it's a bit small, but I'm working on it, with my fabulous blog designer whom I will tell you about tommorrow.

Come to my new digs

Come on. You know you want to. Come join me at my new address at

www.farmerswifey.com.

I'll explain EVERYTHING when you get there.

Don't go away!

Back soon. Studying. I will get to you. *Breathe*.

Blog Help Please

I need some help from you techno nerds. And I mean that in the most friendliest of ways.

I am thinking of buying my own domain and saying adios to blogspot. Trouble is, the domain names that I want are of course already taken.

farmerswifedotcom is taken
farmerswifedotnet is taken

I could go farmerswife.net.au but I can't buy that through "settings, publishing" and I think I should go this way so my readers can be redirected.

I can go farmerswife.org. I can go farmerswifey.com, but I think I want to lose the "y".

I need your input. I need your help how to actually do this. Will my blog be lost forever? Will my blog lose readers because you won't be able to find me? How do I even begin the change?

Spill the beans people.

And the answer is....

Oh you're good. REALLY good. You mums know what a stain is.

Following on from my last post with the photo...drumroll please...

It is my best blue linen tablecloth - the only one I have that fits my big square dining table.....with a purple texta mark gracefully ruining it.

I haven't tried washing it yet, maybe the markers are water based and the stain will just magically disappear. Somehow I doubt it.

My mood at the time:- Pissed off.

My mood now - meh! I suppose I should just be happy that my kids sit around this table and draw and colour and write and bond. Who cares if I want just some degree of class and poshness in my life and my shed.

Guess the Pic

Question 1: What is the following photo??

Question 2: What was Farmers Wifes' mood when she saw this??
I'll be back soon to fill you in.

Oh the Horror - this is a true story

I'm cleaning out my handbag tommorrow. No, not the one called The Hubbster (me naughty!) but the one over my shoulder. Because I had an icky experience today. So I need to clean out my handbag.

I went shopping in Big W today, and as I didn't end up buying anything, I just sauntered out the main doors.

I was abruptly stopped by a male sales assistant not more than 18. Or probably 12. He said to me:

"May I check your bag please?". As I was under the impression that handbags are not allowed to be checked, only shopping bags etc, and as I have never, ever had my handbag checked before, I said to him:

"I thought you didn't check handbags?" And as he looked at me with a searching face thinking "why is she being cagey??" I thought I'd better let him look.....

I opened my bag and to my absolute horror, the contents included:

- my underarm deodorant.
- numerous receipts, paper and sticky notes
- empty chewing gum wrappers
-my purse in there somewhere
- my mobile phone that isn't charged up (so don't even try calling me - Antonio Banderas...)
- 5 ball point pens
- 26 kids textas, lids missing
- hair ties and ribbons
- lots and lots of Lego
and the Piece De Resistance....a bright blue opened box of tampons sitting right on top.

I was mortified. And then he asked me to unzip the side pocket....I'm NOT even going there.

I'm cleaning out my handbag tommorrow.

11 years of ?bliss.

Happy 11th Wedding Anniversary Hubbster. Although the total count of years entwined is 23 ....here's the baby faced proof. I'm so young in this photo I still have pimples...and a fringe. Well, it was the 80's after all.

Writers Workshop

For this weeks Writers Workshop I have chosen prompt:-

2.) What book captured your heart? Write about why the first book you loved is the first book you loved.

I was a child reader. I loved the world of Enid Blyton and read her books over and over. I loved reading about fantasy and magic and faraway places, that possibly didn't even exist.

But the book I loved and still remember the most was Tom's Midnight Garden
by Philippa Pearce. A magical story with elements of gothic and mystery...it completely blew me away when I was a child.

I loved the thought of waking in the quite of the night, when all the world is asleep, and stumbling into this magical, adventure that Tom discovers. It is about the eerie hours that don't exist in the real world...in the grown up world. Of how you just want it to be night again, so you can revisit this ghostlike place.

Haunting and surreal at times, the real magic is in the friendship that Tom makes and how this relationship transcends time and space.

It entranced me. I wanted to live in the pages of the book and visit this garden and be part of it.

I am not going to watch the movie that is based on the book as I don't want the magic that I remember as a child to be tarnished. I am going to reread this book before passing it onto my 9 year old who is a true lover of literature as am I.

Easter...

My facebook status:-

Kids, clean up your room and you can have an easter egg. Kids, make your beds and you can have an easter egg. Kids, sweep the tennis court and you can have an easter egg. I love Easter.

I seriously do. What better time of the year to be able to bribe your kids (lawfully) into getting them to do heaps of work and get paid in easter eggs? Oh yeah, that's right. Christmas. For presents...possibly. Nah I'm not that mean.

We had an awesome Easter. The easter hunt on the farm went well, except this Easter Bunny mumma forget where she put some of the eggs..so they are still MIA. Probably melted into oblivion by now. Or eaten by a farm animal.

We've done the movies, the park, the chicken shop for lunch, the boats and fish at the marina (The Hubbster took the kids there yesterday after their takeaway lunch while Farmers Wife went to work) and the big easter harbour festival which is on at this time every year.

Miss D pleaded with me to go on the Hurricane ride with her. In case you're wondering is this ride as scary and stupidly crazy as it sounds, here it is:-

And in case you missed it the first time:-

Oh Farmers Wife, you say, this ride doesn't look so scary. Pardon me, but see those long arms attached to the pods? They go around as well as up and down at the same time - fast. Accompanied by a loud whooooshing sound which I am sure was the pods just missing the tops of the trucks parked nearby or my heart falling out of my chest.

Miss D:- how long does this ride go for?
Me:- not bloody long I hope.
Miss D:- good.

We screamed, we laughed. And I dribbled out of the corner of my mouth as my butt lifted off the seat.

The Hubbster and I loved these thrilling fast rides before kids. We went bungee jumping, skydiving (him) and did all of that, but now, my stomach just can't handle it. I still love the thrill, but my body doesn't like the motion. One ride on this, and I was done.

Trying not to swear

Me: Shit.

Miss D (aged 9): Dadddd...Mummy swore. Can I swear too?

The Hubbster: If Mummy swore, you can too....

Me: No bloody way...

Miss D: That's two.......can I save them up for later????

Me: WTF??

Today....

Today I am 97 days alcohol free.

Today I remembered my little beagle Girlie who left us 1 year ago today. Hopefully she is chewing her way through lots of shoes with her sister Toto...

Today I took the kids along to see the new movie How to Train Your Dragon. Miss D tipped half her popcorn onto the floor and I remembered how much I love dragons and the fantasy world. Look out for an upcoming post about one of my favourite movies called Dragonworld.....

Today Miss D (aged 9) asked me to tell her the truth about the Easter Bunny....I did, and I'm sad about it. She does, however still believe in Santa Claus, or so she says....

Today I discovered this most amazing artist - Yiruma. This piece almost makes me cry....

Dance Festival Update - finally!

I must apologise for the delay in posting about the Dance Festival. Naughty Farmers Wife used all of our fast internet hours, and have you ever tried posting pics with dial up speed??

To fill you in....we had an awesome weekend!!! The Hubbster looked after Mr C and Miss T so Miss D and I could stay at the festival both days....he is going to watch her dance later in the year at the eisteddfod.

My beautiful dancer was awarded with a "Very Highly Commended" for both her classical ballet and her jazz, and we couldn't be happier! This was her first time dancing solo and she was competing against seasoned performers....she smiled, she had a ball and she looked confident and beautiful.

I had this particular feeling in my belly while I watched her on stage...I was humbled, I was proud, I was incredulous that this gorgeous girl was my daughter. I silently followed her routines, with an ache in my heart that only a mother can truly understand. I had to bite my lip to keep my composure.

And the best thing of all was that her hair rocked for her jazz dance...Terminator!! I was so proud of myself for doing so well in that department! And the tutu looked amazing....
