Writers Workshop

It's time for Writers Workshop courtesy of Mama Kat who may I say has a rockin' blog. Go check it out! I have chosen prompt number 5.) Why is your kid in time out?

Ahhh what a perfect opportunity to dish some dirt on my offspring so I can embarrass them on their 21st birthdays! So my disclaimer for this post is that I love my children more than anything in the world, they are basically good children with a bit of crazy thrown in! And I wouldn't have it any other way!

I am writing about Miss D (aged 8) Mr C (aged 6) and Miss T (aged 4)

My kid(s) is(are) in time out because:-

1 Mr C and Miss T drank 4 bottles of coke zero at once and hid the bottles under their beds. Then they had the hide not to go to sleep until 11.30pm that night as they were crazy on caffeine.

2 Same two kids ate a full packet of Tim Tam chocolate biscuits at one sitting, whilst I was on the telephone.

3 Mr T stripped naked and covered himself head to toe in grease from the bullbar of the car. Even his "you know what I'm talking abouts" got the grease treatment!

4 Someone hits or slaps or screams or swears or pushes the other one so they get time out. To cool down. Do they stay there? Hell no.

5 Miss T who when really pissed off uses words like stupid and sucking hell (because she can't pronounce the "F" sound). I know, I know this is really bad...

When I think about it, I don't use time out alot. In fact, hardly ever. It has to be fairly substantial for one of the kids to have to be put there, so maybe we are not as crazy or dysfunctional as I sometimes think we are!

The Shadows

Oh you will laugh at me and I don't care. No I don't. Because next February, I will be grooving along to..... wait..... wait...... wait for it.......

This is really really special to me because my late dad was a huge fan of The Shadows. I would say they were his favourite band. I remember when I was little, dad used to play records of The Shadows and I can remember Hank Marvin and his distinctive glasses, and the guitar sounds. Dad never got to see them play, and now I will. And that makes me sad.

Dad passed away 10 years ago this October, and at his funeral I arranged to have two songs by The Shadows played. He would have jacked up for sure if I had organ music playing, so I chose the songs Wonderful Land and Atlantis. We had one of these songs playing as the funeral started and one at the end when everyone was walking out. I will never, ever forget how I felt this day, and how the music affected me. I will always connect these songs to my dad.

I haven't listened to these two songs since my dads funeral, nearly 10 years ago. I just can't. They bring back too many painful memories. So what did I just do? I decided to get on youtube and listen to them both. Surely I won't get upset after 10 years?

I am now a sad blubbering mess and I feel a physical pain in my heart because:

1 I just watched the music videos to Wonderful Land and Atlantis.

2 They directly take me back to my dads funeral and how I realised that he was gone.

3 It is that time of the month so I am a hormonal witch anyway

4 I now realise that it would have been such a dream of my dads to see this band, and he never got the chance. But now I will.

5 I wish he was here so I could call him and tell him that I have tickets. Well if he WAS here, he would be coming with me. God I miss him.

I suppose I may be a bit emotional during these songs at the concert. I already know I will be. So to calm my nerves, I present for you, and for my dad, The Shadows - Wonderful Land.

I am super excited to be able to see them play live, and along with Cliff Richard, who I am not really a fan, but The Hubbsters mum is, who is coming along with me. We have good seats too. We will fit in some shopping and lunching and it will be fun.

The Shadows - part of my dads world and now part of mine.

Deposit is Paid!

(We wish to advise that we have now reached "Deposit" stage of construction on the above mentioned project and as per the terms of our building agreement the first payment is now due and payable).

Yes, we are now at the business end (or start) of building our dream home. And with the statement above, it's all so.... definate. And exciting and scary and stressful but wonderful too.

So with that, we withdrew $10 000 and I tucked it into my handbag and we walked down the road to the other bank to deposit it. All the while, watching for any suspicious behaviour that might mean - robbery.....or attack......Lucky for me The Hubbster had his Clint Eastwood shoes on.

Of course with the next payment due, I will be paying with a bank cheque as the figure is high and I'm not carrying that amount of money anywhere. So we have the building contract signed, the deposit is paid and the start date is Monday 17th August 2009. In essence, this is why I started this blog in the first place. I am super excited....

Show day... Great day

It was the show holiday today. The Hubbster was sleeping for night shift so instead of going to the show, and walking around in the dirt and dust for 4 hours, spending copious amounts of money on dirty rides, eating crappy greasy food, argueing with Miss D over why I won't give her $10.00 for a trampoline ride, controlling major tantrums that start after I refuse to buy showbags (my tantrum),...... we decided to go out to the Lake instead.

We go to the show every year. A couple of months ago we went to the Mt Larcom show which is a rural show and it was fantastic. Lots of animals to pat, cows to see, and old fashioned displays. And a handful of rides to keep the kids happy. A hamburger and icecream for lunch, and we were done. And the kids got showbags, the contents of which are no longer with us. So we don't need another show.

The Lake was wonderful. We took Nanny and Poppy out for a family day and had a picnic in the sunshine. The kids played in the park, I forgot my camera of course, we layed around on the grass and it was bliss. The kids got dirty and tired and we went home to a dvd to end the day.

Yep, just call me the Spin Doctor

I'm thinking I am quite clever right about now. You see, The Hubbster and I have been trying to decide who will call the other builder back, the one whos quote we are not accepting. Because we are going with our preferred builder. It's a phone call that is awkward to say the least, and we have been putting it off, and trying to get each other to do it.

So I made a deal with The Hubbster. I would ring the builder, as long as he attended to any waking/crying/screaming children between the hours of 10pm and 11pm tonight because it's Supernaturals final episode. Sometimes one of them wakes up and it's usually me who attends to them, but I do not want to be interrupted during this most important time.

I rang the builder, and it was fine. I'm feeling quite smug right about now..
