Where I'm at in the Blogosphere

Forgive me Father, for I have not blogged for two weeks.....

That thing called Life, has been in the way! Work, homelife, kids activities, dancing festivals, school stuff, more work, washing, new house housework, Easter, Harbour Festival, kid wrangling and the list goes on.

When I sit down at night to relax, I'm so tired that I can't concentrate on stringing two words together, worthy of even publishing on my blog.  But I 'm happy to say that school Term 1 is now over, and the holidays are before us!

I can't believe how quickly the first term has passed! It's usually a busy one for us, with Miss D (aged 12) dancing last weekend in our local dance competition (scoring for herself a 4th, a 2nd and a 1st), dancing on stage at the Harbour Festival last week and now preparing for an Eisteddfod next week.

Mr C (aged 10) has been busy with a special reading project at school, called Project 600, and now is looking forward to AFL, with training starting this week.

Miss T (aged 8) has been loving her Saturday morning dancing class, and has been working on her loudest quite voice, which she delivers every time we are in the library!

The Hubbster has been busy working on the Farm, cutting grass at every opportunity! He doesn't need an excuse to take Jaffa the Tractor for a spin, he even cut the grass at our neighbours farm last week!

The Money Pit is just wonderful! We now have door stops and bathroom mirrors, and every week, something new is done and those final little touches are taking shape!

We still don't have a television in the house, as we would like to buy a flatscreen tv for the Theatre Room, so I'm still heading back to the Shed to watch my shows at night, which frankly sucks as it brings back memories of the four year never ending bad camping trip we were on!

So what else is happening you ask?  Well, did I tell you that in July, I'll be attending Blogher13.  Oh and it's in CHICAGO USA! Can you believe it, because I can't! Only the biggest blogging conference ever!

My flights are booked and paid for, and I'm now working on the fun stuff - where I'll go, what I'll get up to, what I'll wear and I'm trying to find the perfect walking shoes because after Chicago, I'll be flying to New York for a week!

It doesn't seem real yet!  After 16 long years, I'm finally going back to my beloved America, the one place that has held my heart for so long......

Observations

Observations.....

Mr C (aged 9) walked along the deck to the dining room exclaiming " we have a new mat. It's so fancy".  Yes we are.

I'm getting quite anal about my new polished floors.  I sweep them, and sweep them, and they still get dusty.  If a bread crumb is dropped, I'm onto it.  I AM the dirt police.

We really need to do something about the water pressure as every time I fill a glass , the pump kicks in and I'm standing there with a bench covered in water.  It just won't do.

My new favourite saying is "SHUT THE DOOR, YOU WERE NOT BORN IN A TENT".

An inside toilet is the best invention since the sticky note.  Or sliced bread.  Or online shopping.

I've been searching for days for our Christmas tree lights, but they are nowhere to be seen. Our tree will not twinkle this year, but it will still look damn hot.

This is the first time in four years that I'm excited about my Christmas tablescape.  Tablescape is now my favourite word.

Speaking of online shopping, I still get a thrill when a package arrives for me at the post office.

My eldest daughter was named vice captain of her school for next year.  I am so proud, and happy, and in awe of my amazing girl.....

A few nights ago, The Hubbster and the kids were dancing on the deck to Gangman Style.  I couldn't help but think......

We are home.

January 1, 2012

Let's get this year rockin!

A pinch and a punch for the first day of the month (year).....

We started our day with two hours of sitting by the car, waiting for a green tree snake (we think) to move from his hiding space in the car engine.

He didn't move.

He liked the vibrations of the car engine when we turned it on, and even when poked (gently) with a stick to get some action, he went to sleep.

I'm hoping he comes out tonight to hunt and leaves my car alone.

I'm hoping..........

We then enjoyed brunch of eggs, and smokey ham and toast and mushrooms (them not me).

The kids had a swim and it was a nice eventful day.

So back to the snake. We think it is the same one I nearly stepped on, while walking through the shed on Christmas Day.

I didn't blog about that, lest scaring my overseas readers from ever visiting our dangerous Australia!

We also think this snake skin is his!

He's obviously happy in his fancy new skin.

In my car engine.

GET OUT!

I can't believe the kids go back to school in just over 3 weeks! Where has the time gone?

Christmas done. New Year done.

Book lists not done as yet.

But I do have my new calendar ready to be updated.

I love this. It's the only thing that keeps my year organised.

It has spaces for The Hubbster and I, and the 3 kids. I write EVERYTHING there, and it helps me stay on top of things.

The Hubbster and I weighed ourselves this morning, ready for our health and fitness challenge.

As of today I weigh 71.7 kilos. The Hubbster weighed in with his boots on, so I scolded him and he'll check in again tommorrow.

I plan to update every Sunday, as I did with the Battle of the Blogger Butts last year.

And I am very determined!

October 19, 2011

Tell me something I don't know!

Betcha never thought you'd see a Muhammad Ali reference here!

Apparently, I have a habit of calling out and saying weirdo things to The Hubbster, when he's leaving for work at 4.30 am....

This is what he tells me.....I think he's just teasing me........

I don't really think I say these things...but how would I know? I'm still in blissful slumber at that early hour.....

This morning I can kind of recall him getting dressed and asking if I wanted the door locked on his way out, and he says that I said, in my best Muhammad Ali impression:-

I am the Greatest! I am the Greatest!

Yeah right. As if I'd say that.

I don't need to state the obvious!

Watch Out

I emailed this picture to The Hubbster today.

Do you think he'll get the hint?

House Update

We are putting up the soffits now...or the verandah ceilings. We are using our fantastic panel lifter...it makes the job so much easier.

This photo shows the back deck. You can see how much work there is left to do....sigh.

We have a busy week ahead.

Our plasterer visited on Friday and we have a plan of where we are going.

In no particular order we have to:-

Talk again with our plasterer and get his recommendations for a carpenter..

Ring the carpenter and organise a visit....he will be hanging our doors, putting up our vj wall panelling, and doing trims and architraves etc

Ring the plumber and see how much more work he needs to do before we sheet out inside.

On Tuesday, The Hubbster and I are doing a string line all through the house so we can begin putting noggins in, which are the pieces of timber that the gyprock will be attached to.

So the carpenter will do the vj wall panelling, the gyprock guy will put the walls and ceilings up and then the plasterer will come in and finish off.

We are deciding on some nice ceiling roses and some fancy cornices, in keeping with the style of the house.

We also have to decide on which doors we are having, and buy them.

Our tanks have to be purchased so the plumber can do that work.

And we have to find a tiler.

And a painter.

There is still so much to be done. That is why we have decided to outsource and have an expert do most of the internal fitout. We can do it, but we don't have the time if we want to be in by Christmas.

Even that will be a stretch.

It wil be a dream come true when we actually move in. I can't wait to transfer all of our things from the shed and the dongas up to the house.

At least we won't need a moving truck. We live a metre away!

So you'll find me working on the house on Tuesday and with any luck The Hubbster will let me use the nail gun!

July 10, 2011

Made for each other!

Me: You snore too much.

Hubbster: You're a tv addict.

I love it when we get along ♥

Wifey FAQ

People often say to me "Farmers Wifey, you have such a great sense of humour. You're so funny" And I say "well if you lived in a shed you'd laugh (possibly manically) too.

BTW Long awaited House Update coming soon...stay tuned!

Anyway, I thought I'd bring you some Wifey FAQ's, a few resurrected from a previous post and some new delicious tidbits.....

So you're a Farmers Wife, does that mean you can drive a tractor?

Yes I can drive our tractor who we've called JAFFA because she's orange. I can also drive (ride) a motorbike, a go kart, a tennis racket and I drive The Hubbster crazy on a daily basis.

You've been living in your "temporary" shed for two and a half years. What's the worse thing about living in this situation?

How much time have do you have? It's a bit of a toss up between the frogs, the canetoads, the rain coming in, the dust, the dirt, having no storage, being cramped with 5 sleeping in the same room, a few snakes, spiders and mice occasionally, big storms and lightening strikes, a couple of cyclones, and having the house right next door and not finished.

Storage and space are a nightmare. We have no storage and not enough clothing space for the kids clothes which drives me to frustration most days.

And the best?

Becoming close as a family, the experiences and crazy situations we have found ourselves in and the excitement of seeing our dream home materialize before our eyes.

We have all learnt to sacrifice, to go without the comforts that we have become used to, and just deal with what we have.

The kids can ride their bikes and scooters through the shed, we have a possum who we hand feed every night, and the beauty, and space and peace that we have here is unmeasureable. And our view of the mountains and water is breathtaking.

You like your bling, what do you have?

I only wear gold and white gold, and just because I feed the chooks and chase guinea fowl doesn't mean I can't look chic while doing it.

You don't have alot of photos of your kids on your blog. What's with that?

I have this "thing" about posting pics online...which is ironic because this is a public blog afterall. I guess I'll leave it up to the kids to decide what they share. The Hubbster doesn't really like to feature either, except for this gem (and I know he secretly enjoyed it).

So have the kids done anything embarrassing lately?

What do you mean lately? This is a trick question right?

No we're serious.

Does two kids wrestling at the feet of the saleslady in Bunnings qualify?

Is your blog a Justin Bieber free zone?

No, in fact my blog is Justin Bieber Compatible.

If you had to kiss another woman, who would it be and why?

That would be Drew Barrymore. She is so down to earth, funny and talented. She would make an awesome best friend. And she has great hair.

Do you have an embarassing and cringeworthy moment?

Well there was this one time in the middle of the cinema while watching New Moon when Jacob (Taylor Lautner) took his shirt off, and I called out at the top of my voice "YEAH BABY".

The entire audience roared with laughter and wolf whistled while I slid down in my seat and blushed red like an overripe tomato.

You have 3 children 10 and under, so you would be familiar with The Wiggles. Would you rather listen to Hot Potato Hot Potato one more time or stick a rusty fork in your eye?

This is so close to the mark I can't even decide.

Just Random

Bringing you all that is swirling around in my head today. And I don't actually live in a circus..it's all true..

Today I bought the kids new brightly coloured lunchboxes so I can trick them into eating their lunch....the cretins bring at least one thing home per day uneaten and it's driving me nuts!

Miss D (aged 10) isn't so bad but the other two come home starving then raid the fridge, snacking until dinner time when they inform me that they are "just not hungry"....

Tommorrow we are going basic until we have three empty lunchboxes..then the snacks will go back in....

I had a conversation today which gave me the idea of what I want for Valentines Day. And if that fails, I want it for our Wedding Anniversary.

As I have run out of my favourite perfume Joop, (the mans Joop is the one I adore), I decided to wear another fragrance today and it went a little like this):

The Hubbster walks into the computer room in which I sat:-

Him "What's that smell? I can smell fly spray".

He swears that he said this and not "You smell like fly spray".

FW "I'm wearing another perfume today".

Him "You smell like Mortein".

FW "You know where the chemist is. Joop is on special. Here's the car keys".

My facebook status today.....

Funniest thing I've seen in ages.. The Hubbster getting the wasp nest down off the clothesline first with a big stick and then with some spray hahahahahahaha...Gee he was brave..hehehehe.

Silly Farmers Wifey

I'm so scatterbrained at the moment. I'm blaming it on the time of year and the fact that I'm super busy and enormously tired.

Yesterday whilst driving home from town, I realised that I needed fuel in the car but decided it could wait until today. So today I drove right past the petrol station completely oblivious to the fact that my orange fuel light was glistening.....

When I got home I realised I had a dilemma. I could see that I had 1 km left on the distance gauge and 7 kms to drive back into town. Hmm a problem yes?

I told The Hubbster who berated me for for being an idiot and left the problem up to me to solve.

As he wouldn't help me, but instead belly laughed at my predicament, I told him in no uncertain terms to go forth and multiply because obviously it was his fault that I had this fuel issue.

He made a deal with me that if I washed the car, he would solve my fuel problem. We shook hands and he walked to the shed and collected the drum of diesel "just for emergencies". The cad had tricked me!

And if that wasn't bad enough, I drove into town and filled up the tank to the sum of $80.00 only to realise I had left my wallet at home. Crap.

I thought I'd then be calling The Hubbster from the police station but the kind attendant allowed me to call back later and pay the account. But not before writing on the bill "drive off" so now I'll probably be on Australia's Most Wanted.

I'm going to bed. Sigh.

Take a breath Farmers Wifey

Could my life get much busier? I could always get a full time job and then I'd be completely screwed.

I thought I'd bring you my "two weeks of hell on a stick that I should be enjoying" or "stuff that makes me drink too much wine" just to prove how busy I am.

I'll post in point form and remember people - some on this list I have done, some I have yet to do, and some I have done three times.

I'll date it from last Wed to next Wed which should be two weeks, which sounds like it's only one week but it's really two if you read the fine print...

ATTENTION husbands/fathers/men in general

Happy Fathers Day!

The Hubbster was most pleased with his cache of gifts, cuddles and school bought treats and trinkets. I love the look on the kids faces when they give him their homemade cards and photo frames...

Fathers Day has made me think about the worldwide phenomenon of the man cave.

Taken indirectly from the wonderful thing that is Wikipedia:-

A man cave (also sometimes Mantuary) is a male sanctuary, such as a specially equiped garage, spare bedroom, media room, den or basement.

A man cave is loosely a male-only space to retreat to watch sports matches, or play video games. (or if you are Australian, drink alot of beer). It is important for a man to have a place to call his own. Some psychologists claim that a man cave can provide refuge from stressful surroundings and be beneficial to marriage
.

Check out this link for some awesome man caves.

The Hubbster had a man cave at our previous house, before we moved to the farm. It was an awesome room and he loved it so. Here it is:-

I think he now feels a bit misplaced because we are living in the shed and he doesn't have that "place to call his own". Of course he has the two shipping containers full of tools and 75 acres to roam around on and the little room he does his shooting reloading in, which would be the closest thing he has to a man cave.

But it's just not the same.

When The Money Pit is finished, I will have my own "man cave", a separate kid free room (and I am looking forward to it more than the kitchen). I shall decorate it all pretty and girlie like with my scrapbooking, beautiful photos on the wall, my books, shelves full of pretty things......

The Hubbster likes to stir me by saying "that room would be great for me to hang out in". To which I reply:-

No way in hell. Keep on dreaming buddy.

August 5, 2010

Random oh Random Post

I really need to do a random post as I have so much to say....I'd suggest you go find a friend to read with you as this will be such an awesome post. I guarantee it!

It will be a mishmash of all the "things" shooting around in my head at the moment..

The Hubbster gave his permission (after a bit of arm twisting and bribery from moi) to share this photo of him and his broken sunglasses - care of either Miss D, Mr C or Miss T, or maybe all three of them conspiring to piss The Hubbster off....

I was trying to figure out why we have no socks around the place..especially on Monday mornings when I am running late for work. I did a scout around yesterday and looked into a few nooks and crannies (and behind and under lounge chairs and in the car) and guess what I found:-

Yes, this badass pile of socks (25 in all) and they probably don't even freakin' match.

I'm going to ZUMBA tommorrow with a friend. If you haven't heard of Zumba, you have obviously been living under a rock, or have no access to television telemarketing.

I've heard that Zumba is a fun, easy way to get fit and meet friends. With my dance background I shouldn't find it too difficult. Maybe I'll stand in the back row just to be sure...

Apparently, after a month of doing Zumba, I should look like this.

If I don't look like this, I'll be getting a full refund and sitting my butt and rock hard abs (not) back on the goddam couch.

We had a great day on Sunday at the Multicultural Festival, where Miss D danced her National Romanian group dance on stage. She looked divine and I was so proud of her. And her smile.

I saw a mum and dad with a toddler and brand new triplets..two little boys in a double pram and a little girl in mummys sling. I had a pang of jeolousy..and sadness...then an "I wish it was me moment" before melting at the sight of these gorgeous babes...

We met up with 2 other mums and all of our kids had fun on the rides including the dodgem cars, various jumping castles and the rock climbing wall where my kids kicked ass....

I was so happy, because my three kids were happy. They relished in spending time with their friends, and it was sunny and warm and we were together and life was good.

Life IS good.

BUT if my kids don't get out of bed at a reasonable time in the mornings, and help get organised for school, I swear to God I will hose them. I even bought a water spray bottle today that I am going to spray them with tommorrow if they won't get up. This should make a little less mess than bringing the hose in.

The Hubbster and I visited the bathroom supply shop the other day and decided on our bathroom fitouts for The Money Pit.

Our vanitys will be to the floor and I really like this style of basin, that sits on top of the vanity. What do you think?

I still think about my lost little one. Every day. I water his (her) plant and say hello..which is fine because I also talk to my guinea fowl and my chickens, so what's a plant matter?

I bought some new nail polish the other day. It's sort of this colour.

I've never bought anything like this colour before and can't wait to paint my nails. I also bought 10 cakes of soap for $4.95. Bargain.

I've decided to wear my bling instead of hiding it away. I'm always scared of losing my jewellery so I don't wear it. But I'm going to go out looking shiny and expensive.

I walked past two mums at the school gate the other day discussing morning sickness remedies and birthing information, and I twinged a bit. I looked straight ahead and walked on thinking "take it somewhere else will ya".

My blog. My bitch.

Mr C (aged 7) got in the car the other day all distressed and exclaimed:-

"we can't go anywhere yet, I have no technology!!!!!!!!!!!!!" meaning ipod or dsi game.

I love him.

July 25, 2010

Always wondering....

The Hubbster and I spent the afternoon sitting in the front doorway of The Money Pit, in the sunshine, watching the kids ride the quad bike and their pushbikes. They spent the entire day outside building bike jumps while we discussed bathroom fitouts.

We have decided on the layout of the bathrooms so that is one thing out of the way. We have decided after the events of the last few months that we will fasttrack our house build as we (I) am desperate to get it finished and move in.

I promise to get to your blogs when I can. We have had crappy internet connection all weekend, that I shall be dealing with tommorrow (watch out internet provider).

There have been two things on my mind during the last couple of days. I can't seem to stop thinking of them, and unfortunately I will never know the answers.

The first one is that I will never know why my baby's heart stopped beating. We saw the heartbeat @ 6 weeks, then @ 9 weeks, there was no heartbeat. I will always wonder why my baby died, why the little heart stopped, and what exactly caused it to happen.

I did everything I could to make sure this one would stick.

The second thing is that I am wondering at what stage a baby (my baby) can think. I must google this to find out. @ 8, 9 or 10 weeks, could my baby think, did my baby know that he (or she) was alive?

Did my baby know how much I adored him (or her) even during these early weeks?

This really makes my heart break.

June 16, 2010

Does blueberry strudel cause insomnia?

Well does it??

Again, does blueberry strudel cause insomnia? Because if it does I'm laying off the stuff.

I was awake until after midnight last night. I just couldn't sleep although I was so tired.

But hang on, maybe my lack of slumber had something to do with the freight train (snoring Hubbster) next to me.

Or even Miss T (aged 5) who woke up every half an hour asking me to fix her blankets.

And they still expect me to wake up early and cook them breakfast?

c) Lynda is very brave for not changing her name to protect her identity and

d) Lynda is a very understanding friend.

The Money Pit, lets get back into it.

We have finally restarted building the house. It's been several months at a stand still for various reasons including:-

- visitors from interstate on two occasions
- school holidays
- my work and study
- focus on buying a tractor so we can slash all of our long grass on the farm caused by
- tonne and tonnes of rain preventing us from doing our exterior painting
- time and time restraints caused by
- the kids extra activities being football and dancing......and the list goes on.

So I am excited to write that we are back into it!

The last thing we did was the deck which we painstackingly oiled....way back at the end of January and what month is it now - yes it's May. So we are well overdue with the exterior painting.

The Hubbster has started to sand and prime the posts in a cute shade of pink, ready for the final coat - white above the deck and woodland grey underneath.

I"ve also been doing a bit of DIY - I'm really good at it. I should have my own show. I'd call it

Farmers Wifey Fixes Things.

These are our crappy drawers made of chipboard which when they are not falling apart, usually hold the kids clothes.

We bought these temporary cupboards to use in the shed until we moved into the house, where each bedroom will have beautiful, strong walk in robes with shelving made from hardwood. Which will not break, even when I climb them which I have been know to do.

So I glued all of the drawers back together the other day, using the following tools of the trade. See how I have utilised the things we have in our shed to hold the drawers in place! See, I really should have my own show.

Raving Lunatic. That's Me.

Hmmmm...my post of yesterday. Regarding the muffin and the plate. I think that was written by some crazy, mental, possessed banshee in the middle of a tantrum. Oh yeah, that was me. Yesterday. Today I'm fine.

You see, I had pmt. Or Pre Menstrual Tension for you men who may not know what it means. Of course if you are married, you probably are already familiar with it.

Last night I wouldn't have at all been surprised if my head started to spin and I spewed blood on the walls (reference The Exorcist) .

For just two days per month I turn into a raving madwoman, cranky with the world and all it represents. The Hubbster likes to point this out to me by saying "ahhhh, so it's that time of the month..that explains everything". I could punch him in the nose there and then.

So the issue with the muffin and the plate is so unimportant that it's embarrassing, but last night I had steam coming from my ears when I arrived home to find that The Hubbster had eaten my chocolate muffin that I had been saving because I have been to the gym, eating right and savouring this little treat for my hard work. He didn't even ask. He just stuffed it down, crumbs and all.

I was furious. I can't believe how pissed off I was (remember PMT people). He offered no explanation. Although he did buy me flowers today, under the guise of Mothers Day so maybe he feels guilty!

So while I washed up roughly, splashing water from the sink, I wiped his favourite breakfast plate (the crappy one with the chips and crack in it from our old dinner set) and accidently dropped it on the floor. Opps. I can't believe I did that. Who the hell am I?

I hate feeling like this. It's very emotional. It's the hormones of course. I can't believe the crap that comes out of my mouth, I don't even make sense to myself.

And as quick as it comes, it's over. But I can't take back being a bitch for those two days to the ones I love the most. I really think I need some medication. Or some herbs at least. Or a shopping holiday. That would do.

Our new toy that The Hubbster may not let me drive

We have a new toy. She arrived last week. Here she is.

Our very own brand new Kubota tractor. We've called her Jaffa because she's orange. I may not even get a drive because The Hubbster thinks he's just the bees knees slashing all of our long grass and generally doing farm stuff.

Jaffa even has a drink holder for those long hot summer days out in the paddock. I really want a drive. I think orange will really suit me.
