My Journey to Me

It's taken me forever to get here. To become the person I am today. Why do I still feel like that 17 year old, leaving school, enrolling in a course, embarking on my life?

Time goes so fast. I am 42 years old, but I sometimes still feel like I am a teenager. Remembering my first crush, my first kiss, my first embarassing drunken escapade. It all seems so fresh in my mind. Wouldn't it be easier to go back to those times, when the weight of the world wasn't so heavy?

My life has been full and yes, it has been a journey. Of discovery, of adventure and of heartache. Is it true that these things mould you into the type of person you become?

Would I have changed anything? Of course. But then I wouldn't be the same. The joy and the sadness has made me into a strong and proud woman, mother, wife and friend. I remember thinking of what it would be like to be a mother, and here I am and I am fulfilled. And so lucky.

I count my blessings every day. I don't take things for granted because once the sun goes down, this day will never be again.

Yes. It's taken me forever to get here. But it was worth the wait.

My mind sometimes drifts back to those "easier" times of childhood, and even adolescence (when it didn't seem so easy) ... and yes, I certainly would've done things differently, but as you, I'm happy where I am.

I often think back to those teenage years and wish that I had appreciated them more. I need to take that lesson and appreciate the stage in life that I am in now too.

Great post. I love being 41 (42 in November). I truly do.

Lessons trump legs. Still, I miss my 20 year old legs.

Time only goes faster the older we get. I can't believe where it goes.
I still remember things from long ago like they were very recent.
I'll be 58 end of this month.

I'm the same age as you but sometimes I feel that I am totally faking this whole "adult" thing and that I really act like I'm 12!!! At other times, I look back on my young self and feel incredibly wise and much more with it. It is a funny thing, isn't it?

Love that photo! Very Mona Lisa-ish!

I think back to high school with a bit of dread as I was often teased and wasn't self confident, but I wouldn't trade a second of my life because every piece got me to where I am now. I love my life, my kids, my husband. Our life is not perfect but I am perfectly happy with the way it is. I believe that if given the option to go back in time if you change just one second you could alter the entire world as you know it. So I may let my mind wonder if I chose a over b what would have happend but I wouldn't actually go back and do it.

I so agree, at 55, there are only 3 things I would change and none of them have happened directly to me, rather to people I love. But I believe everything we go through makes us stronger. Nice to find your blog through Blog This.
