Wonderland

I'm sitting in the dark with a glass of wine..watching the AFI Awards. I'm relaxing. I'm chillin'.

I've had a very busy week and the washing is behind and the house (shed) work is behind and the kitchen is a disaster but I don't care because the dance concert is over...and it was a success!

The months (literally) of practice..of routines..and costumes... and the week of rehearsals prior to this event today...is worth every bit of blood, sweat and tears that I have shed...and I have shed blood.....pricking my fingers while sewing straps on a ballet costume.

This year the concert was called Wonderland..the story of Alice...in Wonderland. I am so glad that my girls dance with this particular dance studio.....the choreography, the set design...the imagination.....

Today was the first concert for Miss T (aged 5) and she did beautifully......she was so gorgeous..she had a teeny tiny bit of stage fright..but she danced on and looked like she was having a ball.........

Miss D (aged 9) danced in her 3rd concert..and performed as the March Hare.

She danced her jazz solo as well as acting in the Hatters Tea Party as well as dancing in the irish, ballet, jazz, contempory and cabaret groups......

There are really no words to describe the feeling of watching your child performing on stage..I get so excited and nervous and proud and teary..all at the same time.

There are many parents of the opinion that dance concerts and similiar are a no no for kids..that the hair and makeup and rehearsals are detrimental to a childs development??

Well boo hoo to them....my girls are agile and flexible and healthy and fit..they work as part of a team and are creative and clever...and above all that..they have fun. We wouldn't do it if it wasn't fun......

I felt deflated this evening and Miss D said something to me that made a lot of sense..she said :- "Mum, you know when you look forward to something for a long time and when it's over, you fell kind of....sad....that it's over....well that's how I feel now.."

And that's exactly......how I feel......

It sounds like your girls are part of a wonderful dance group and are not only getting lots of physical benefits but learning some fantastic life lessons.

I hope that you are able to truly enjoy the rest of the weekend, it sounds like you could all do with a bit of quiet indulgence.

It's the most wonderful time of the year, but also the most hectic, correctamundo?
