As we live out of town, the kids and I love to play games in the car, while driving in for shopping, dancing or football, or driving to school in the mornings...
We refer to the first game as "the movie quote game". We take it in turns to...well...say quotes from movies we love and see who can guess which movie we are referring to. It's kinda like, I'll say:
"Hello, my name's Bruce" "Hello Bruce"......from Nemo or
"You didn't file your paperwork"......from Monsters Inc or
I do the funny noise the bird makes in the movie UP which usually has the kids in hysterics..
The second game we play is the one I like to refer to as "Lets say how awesome Mummy is". I start of by saying something in a singing tone and the kids repeat, like this:-
F/W Mummy is awesome
Kids Mummy is awesome
F/W Mummy is beautiful
Kids Mummy is beautiful
F/W Mummy cooks nice dinners
Kids Mummy cooks nice dinners
F/W Mummy is skinny
Kids Mummy is skinny
(I'm serious, we really do play this game)
F/W Mummy's a good dancer
Kids Mummy's a good dancer
F/W Mummy's smarter than Daddy
Kids Mummy's smarter than Daddy (by now the kids are in riots).......
The last game is a new one...we start off by singing the iconic song "The Wheels on the Bus" and in the verses we make reference back to "our" family. Here, I'll show you:-
The wheels on the bus go round and round
round and round, round and round
The wheels on the bus go round and round
All the way to town
The people on the bus go up and down
up and down, up and down
The people on the bus go up and down
All the way to town
The tweens on the bus go yeah whatever
yeah whatever, yeah whatever
The tweens on the bus go yeah whatever
All the way to town
The mummies on the bus go do your homework
do your homework, do your homework
The mummies on the bus go do your homework
All the way to town
The boys on the bus go Ben 10 rocks
Ben 10 rocks, Ben 10 rocks
The boys on the bus go Ben 10 rocks
All the way to town
The mummies on the bus go clean your room
clean your room, clean your room
The mummies on the bus go clean your room
All the way to town
The kids on the bus go it's not my stuff
it's not my stuff, it's not my stuff
The kids on the bus go it's not my stuff
All the way to town
The daddies on the bus go get off the computer
get off the computer, get off the computer
The daddies on the bus go get off the computer
All the way to town
The mummies on the bus go where's the wine
where's the wine, where's the wine
The mummies on the bus go where's the wine
All the way to town
The mummies on the bus go kids you're busted
kids you're busted, kids you're busted
The mummies on the bus go kids you're busted
All the way to town

I LOVE these games! We do the movie one too. Which is a good clean family fun game.
THEN in the midst of playing that, someone will always break into the toothbrush game.
The rules are simple. We take turn telling each other the gross (made up, thank GOD) things we've done to the other family members toothbrush.
Example:
Son: Dad, I took you toothbrush outside and scrubbed out the garbage can.
Husband: Yeah, well, I took your toothbrush to work and scrubbed the bathroom floor with it.
Me: I took both of your toothbrushed and cleaned the shower drain with them.
You get the picture.
Its completely disgusting.
We love it.
omg i love the toothbrush game, but I dare not play it just in case the kids get some ideas..and actually do what they offer with the toothbrushes lol
I love your games. They are much more creative than the ones I used to play with my kids!
LOL at the toothbrush game!
My guys did a lot of counting games. We'd do skip-counting: count by 7's starting at 3, or count by 4's, backwards, starting at 283, etc. The boys liked it and they both ended up being very good at math...hmmm - connection?!
You are so clever, playing games AND educating them at the same time! I think I am simply corrupting mine....
Very cute! We make our kids practice their times tables. Not much fun, eh!? But with a captive audience you've got to make the best of it LOL.
Hehe, my kids are too young for car games yet, but I may steal yours when they're older!
TOO FUNNY! I love your version of The Wheels on The Bus!
We play spotto - it's a competition to see who can spot the most dogs on a trip :)
Ohhh we might play spotto in the morning...
Now you're getting too creative on me. I figure if I pop a DVD rated PG or lower, I'm rocking :)
Awesome.
I am going to steal these game ideas.
We have long drives to & from home to Dubbo and after a while I need something else LOL than their whining.
Oh they should be old enough for spotto, I spy ...not so good on letters.
A good way to pass the time; I remember doing all these with Amy when I used to take her up and down to Manchester every 4/5 weeks.
CJ xx
these games are hilarious - love it - my favourite one is the lets sing about how awesome mummy is - so going to steal that one! p.s - you are awesome! Naomi xx
Always on the lookout for new car games! My kids get bored sooooo easily... I love the mummy is awesome, wheels on the bus games. Hope to remember them next time they're bickering on the way to the shops (3 mins!)
My daughter loves your Wheels on the Bus lyrics. She was cracking up!
We do the Wheels on the bus. The beauty of it is that it can go on for ever.
hahaha! :D i love the "Mummy is awesome" song.
we have done variations with randomly shouting 'titles' that boost confidence (or sorta) like -
"Tornado - king of the potty" and
"Mami is total rockstar" but it got a bit embarrassing when my 5yo shouted "Dogthing is a DUMB SHIT" repeatedly at the local IGA.
will look into a mummy praising song for the car now.
HA! You are awesome! Love it! And the fact that you do stuff together in the car. I'm rather inspired... and my kids need to sing the mum is awesome song.
