Always the King

On this day 34 years ago, the world lost an icon..my beloved Elvis Presley.

I am not forward in saying he was "my Elvis". I grew up with his music, our family loved him, my mother was crazy for him and my uncle reminds me of him!

My childhood was filled with family get togethers, where my cousins and I would be sent to bed (where we proceeded to have pillow fights) while the grown ups danced and rocknrolled to his music.

I have such a cool family! I am sure this is why I love music so much.

Elvis reminds me of the South, of the musical era and the times of the 50's and 60's which I love, and a time that just feels free.

As an Australian, my obsession with everything American is longstanding, so it wasn't a surprise when my trip to the US incorporated a visit to Graceland, not only for me, but for my Mother.

I remember phoning her from Graceland, allowing her a connection to her Elvis through me. She, and I were thrilled.

He was such a beautiful man, so spiritual, so charismatic....those eyes, those lips. Those cheekbones....

That voice.

His death was such a tragedy, for someone so talented and giving to die so young.

I wanted to share one music video, but how do I choose just one......

How sexy........is this.

And my favourite song..

This. Gives me shivers...

This...Moved Me.

I've been thinking alot about the following video clip, and how amazing it is that people can be given second chances.

This is the story of Mr Ted Williams , a homeless man with the most beautiful smooth velvety radio voice, who has been given that second chance because of his appearance on You Tube.

He had fallen on hard times, but now has more job offers than he knows what to do with, and his life is now changed forever.

I suppose there will be wowsers who will think he doesn't deserve this...but I am quite moved by his story. Just listen to him.......

Delicious Dancing

I am a former latin american state champion and ballroom dancer (feel free to say - Farmers Wifey, we didn't know you were so multi talented..).

Because of this, and because of the passion I still have, dance will always be a part of my life.

May I blow my own trumpet for just a bit, because, yes I was good. Damn good. I could have gone all the way, but my dance partner gave up and I discovered boys, pretty much at the same time.

At the moment, I'm trying to negotiate my way around Zumba, trying to make sexy look easy....I'll get back to you on that one....

Please watch the following video until the end....words to describe - awesome, magical, amazing. YOU decide.

Politicians are funny

I don't particularly like politics, but damn we have some funny politicians in Australia. Take Julie Bishop, our Deputy Leader of the Opposition. Apparently she was heckled during an interview and this resulted in the following death stare:-

Then some wag decided to turn it into Julie Bishop Using The Force:-

God I think this is funny, I can't even look at her without giggling now!

So to our Prime Minister. Kevin Rudd. Probably the most unlikeable one we have had. He is rude to flight attendants, looks down his nose at the most unfortunate, and can't even lower himself to the common man. I really don't like him. I know that sounds unpatriotic but I just do not respect him.

Our previous Prime Minister John Howard was better. He was more approachable, as I found out one day whilst shopping at the mall. As I walked on through, there seemed to be alot of fuss with a crowd of people gathering around. I made my way to the crowd and realised there were alot of very important looking burly security people hanging around this one guy.

And it turned out to be Prime Minister John Howard. He was on a meet and greet with the people so I made my way over, realising this was my one and only chance of meeting him. I pushed my way to the front of the crowd and when he looked over, I put my hand out and said in a (too) excited voice " Hi, I'm Farmers Wife!". (insert name here).

He shook my hand and said hello and moved on. And that was that. He was shorter than I thought but really friendly. So that was my 5 seconds with the Prime Minister of Australia.

I really like Barack Obama and would love to know your thoughts, since alot of my readers are Americian. Is he popular over there, do people like him, can he "connect" with the public....

And I really like Michelle (cool name) Obama, she seems really down to earth and easygoing. For a first lady. And she has got great style.

On a more serious note, we are possibly expecting a visit from Cyclone Ului on the weekend. Come on, I'm just too busy for a cyclone right now. We have dance festival rehearsal on Saturday, so I better not get blown off my hill because the ballet takes preference.

It's already really windy here, but hopefully it will blow on through like the one we had this time last year, and I won't have to visit the tinned food isle as I did back then.

You Tube classics

I love You Tube. I hate that I love it because it uses up all of our internet hours..but there are so many funny, clever, talented people out there..and it keeps me away from more mundane things like washing, cleaning and ironing. Here are some of my favourite videos, some may be old but they are awesome..

I won't describe what they are about...just watch and you will see...

You could watch ALL of the videos because I have used up a quarter of our monthly net allowance bringing these to you. Because I'm nice like that...

Video cuteness

This would just about equal Christian the Lion in heart melting cuteness. Thank goodness this man has good eye/hand co-ordination. The innocence of animals is truly humbling.

I'm loving these right now..

This week I start on a bright and cheery note, and bring you two videos that make my heart melt. The first one, well just watch and tell me you don't get the smoothest feeling throughout your body. Every time I watch this, I get teary (every time).I get that cliched warm and fuzzy feeling you get when something is just so pure and wonderful. Enjoy.

The second video is about an idea that I wished I had thought of. When I watch this and the black and white picture turns to colour, and you will see what I mean, it's almost as if the world gets just that little bit closer to not being so messed up.

You can read all about the Free Hugs Campaign here. Let's have warm fuzzies all round....
